Interior Design: Offices – GUEST BLOG

Hello, everyone! I’m so excited to be here with you at GDI to share a guest post from Arcadian Home blog, a great place to find lots of interior design inspiration including clever decorating ideas for everything from fabulous folding screens to colorful wall art and much more.

Today, we’re going to take a visual tour of eight of my favorite workspaces. From tiny corners to sweeping curved multi-level spaces, they all have one thing in common—they represent some of the best in happy places to work. Please enjoy!

Thanks for letting me stop by to visit for awhile!

Happy Workspace

Brick wall, painted wood floor, a long beautiful but sturdy desk of reclaimed wood and really cool black chairs—what more does a happy workspace require? Perhaps a really great modern pendant light. Isn’t it beautiful?

Happy Workspace

Designer Brad Ford has created a stunning home office in one corner of his New York apartment. Each piece used in the space is interesting and exceptional in its own way. From the lamp to the desk and framed artwork, all contribute to this happy workspace.

Happy Workspace

We love this totally contemporary home office. It’s definitely on our short list of happy workspaces. The erratic lines of the bookshelves give the design a light-hearted feel.

Happy Workspace

From the unexpected oversized art to the interesting desk design, this workspace has a great feel. The lights are stunning–both the contemporary floor lamps in black and the massive Jeremy Cole Aloe Blossom chandelier in creamy white.

Happy Workspace

What a happy home office this is! From the stunning view to the dramatic architecture, it’s perfect in every way.

Happy Workspace

As we’ve already seen, happy workspaces come in all sorts of styles. This lovely vintage room is a wonderful collection of treasured furnishings. A great example of the phrase “happiness is being surrounded by the things you love.”

Happy Workspace

This amazing home office is set in a renovated cement factory. The building and grounds come together to form a beautifully unique living space.

I am captivated by this interior view of the offices of Vitra, yes, that Vitra–the iconic Swiss furniture company whose modern furniture has become synonymous with great design. To me, this looks like the ultimate happy workspace. Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8

Interior Design: A Designers Development

Everybody knows it is important to learn, develop and educate. It doesn’t matter if you have been qualified for 20+ years… designers need to train over and over again. Skills need to be updated. Techniques need to be tweaked. The World is always changing. New things are being released daily. Furniture, software, colours, fabrics, technology… it is ever changing and incredibly important to keep on top of.

Design exhibitions, networking events, magazine subscriptions all help with this. You may have a qualification in design, but if you don’t train, learn and absorb the world around you, it is very easy to become outdated and behind the times.

We are always pushing our team to learn, inspire and train. One of our design team produced a layout for an office space that we felt was a little unimaginative. After some time spent with him, explaining new ways of thinking and the importance of the employee and clients journey etc.. He then produced a space that wowed us and the client! See below…

PLAN (2)

As you can see, the second option thinks more about the people in the space. It shows that the employer cares about the staff. It is creative and impressive for clients to be wowed!

No matter how long you have been doing something – KEEP LEARNING! Keep updating your knowledge!!
